Talent

Classic EraTBC AnniversaryClassic progressionForeverRetail
  • Not available on that edition (the reason is in the tooltip)
  • Depends on the setting, your class or another addon (details in the tooltip)

What it does

Checks how many points or ranks you have in the talent you choose, compared with the number you set. Where talents are picked one per row, it checks whether you picked that talent instead.

Why you might use it

Checks one talent so a rotation can follow your build. On Classic Era and TBC Anniversary it compares points in a talent, such as using Execute more eagerly with 2 points in Improved Execute; on Classic progression (Mists) it checks a talent row choice; on Retail and WoW Forever it compares the rank of a node in your active loadout, where an unchosen choice node or a hero talent outside your hero tree has rank zero. A talent saved from a different talent system stays unavailable and is never converted, and an unreadable node is unavailable even under NOT. See also Talent Tree Points and Spell Known.

Example

the number of talent points in Improved Execute (Fury) is equal to 2

Settings

What each setting in the condition editor means, from the game's own help.

Classic conditions compare points spent in a tree talent. Mists selections use six tiers with three choices. Historical references from another talent system remain unavailable and are never automatically converted.

Retail and Forever compare the rank of a talent in your active loadout. Pick it from the talents of the rotation's specialization (the Specialization list shows another specialization's, outside combat), or enter the node ID (and, for a choice node, the entry ID of the choice) to share a rotation. A choice node's entry has rank zero unless it is the chosen one, a hero talent outside your chosen hero tree has rank zero, and so does a talent of a specialization you are not playing. A talent picked from the list also remembers its spell, and is found again by it if Blizzard renumbers the talent tree. Ranks are read again after any talent change; an unreadable node is unavailable, including under NOT.

Show talent tree draws the talent tree of the specialization shown, with every talent open to choose. Click a talent to choose it, or click the chosen one again to clear it; the Talent list follows. It cannot open during combat. (only on Forever, Retail)

Talent tree names

A talent tree is stored as a number, 1 to 3, in the order the talent window lists the trees. The editor and the condition descriptions show your class's tree names instead.
